"You will doubtless take full advantage of the opportunities the Institute will offer you in the way of attaining proficiency in your profession. You have every reason to do so, for I believe there will be a steady expansion of banking business in South Africa affording scope for advancement of capable men." the words of the First elected President Mr. Hector Mackenzie, said at his 1904 inaugural speech.
Our history and legacy is long and rich, having served the Banking Sector in South Africa with unwavering commitment.
Notably, the Institute of Bankers in SA (IOB) has created and maintained international links. The Institute prides itself in being the founder member of the African Alliance of the Institute of Bankers (AAIOB) and currently holds the position of Secretariat for the Alliance.
More than 100 years on, the IOB are in the prime position to offer education and training to the Financial Services Sector.
The fifth oldest Institute in the world, the IOB stays abreast of sector and international trends, constantly reinventing itself to embrace a changing business world.
The IOB provides continuous professional development for the South African Financial Services Sector and is accredited by the BANKSETA as a Centre of Excellence. The IOB is thus able to offer the Financial Services sector relevant, meaningful an up-to-date education and training interventions.
The IOB has been given a clear mandate by the Banking Industry to continuously develop the human capital in the sector.
Continuous development is the core business of the IOB and focuses on:
- People
- Innovation
- Excellence
- Professionalism
The IOB continues to add value to members through the SA Banker magazine, networking forums, experiential continuous professional development programmes, and the highly esteemed banking professional designations such as the CAIB (SA). The CAIB (SA) is a professional designation, with its status underpinned by the formal banking qualifications.
