IOB Membership number and UNISA student number

There is an IOB membership number and UNISA student number, why are there two numbers?
The UNISA student number is an identification code for students studying at UNISA's Centre of Business Management. Likewise, the IOB membership number identifies members of the IOB.

Is being a member of the IOB necessary in order to register and study through IOB/UNISA and is there a fee
associated with this membership? In order to study, it is required that a student becomes a member of the IOB. Annual membership fees are R 250.00 per annum, payable at the beginning of each year. For the International fees of R 330.00 and SADC fees of R 280.00.

Are different numbers issued each year?
No, the UNISA student number is kept for the duration of the study period with UNISA's Centre of Business Management. The IOB membership number is for life. Should a membership be cancelled once the study period is over, the number is not re-allocated to another member, it is simply de-activated. Should re-activation be necessary, the same number is allocated to the member.

How are these numbers allocated?
As soon as a student registers to study, they register to become a member, receiving a membership number from the IOB if they are not already a member. UNISA will issue a student number when the registration is being processed.

What is the purpose of the UNISA student numbers?
