Member types

Ordinary Members

Ordinary membership is open to everybody. Application for membership must be made to the Institute.
Membership fees fall due on 1 January each year, and where applicable, are debited to members accounts in the first quarter of the year. A letter of payment due will be sent where an account can not be debited.
Resignation from membership must be in writing and must be received before 31 December to become effective for the following year.
If a subscription remains unpaid, membership will be cancelled in the second quarter of the year. Re-instatement will require the payment of a R75 registration fee as well as the membership fees for that particular year.
A Student is an Ordinary Member who is studying towards and is registered to write any of the Institutes qualification exams.

Certified Associates

Those members of the Institute who have completed the examinations for the Diploma of the Institute as prescribed by the Board. The recognized abbreviation of this qualification shall be C.A.I.B (SA);

Associates, who shall be members elected by the Board by reason of :

Their holding the diploma of another Institute of Bankers recognized by the Institute; or
Their official position in a banking or financial institution on a list maintained from time to time by the Institute.

Honorary Members

Honorary life membership will be granted to persons who have retired and who have been members of the Institute for an unbroken period of at least 15 years. Honorary life members do not pay subscription fees.

Fellowship

Fellowship of the Institute is awarded very selectively and reflects a professional and senior status. The following conditions need to be met in order for members to be nominated for Fellowship:

Three year membership of the Institute which must be current at the time of nomination.
Holder of the CAIB(SA) qualification.
Seven years in a managerial capacity
The nomination must be sponsored by two Associates or two Fellows of the Institute (not retired)
Non CAIB(SA) holders are also eligible for election subject to the under mentioned conditions:

Nominations are submitted to Board for their consideration. Fellows are expected to play an active role in supporting the Institute.
