SONA allows the President to address the nation on the general state of South Africa, to reflect on a wide range of political, economic, and social issues in both domestic and global contexts, to account to the nation for the work of government, and to lay out the government’s plan of action.
President Cyril Ramaphosa will deliver the 2024 State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Thursday, February 8, 2024 at 7 PM. The address will take place at the Cape Town City Hall, before a joint sitting of the two houses of Parliament.
You can watch SONA live on Parliament TV (DStv 408) as well as South Africa’s main news TV channels, namely SABC News (DStv 404), eNCA (DStv 403) and Newzroom Afrika (DStv 405). The news channels usually start their coverage at least an hour before the address.
“As preparations for this key event on the parliamentary calendar progress, the significance of the upcoming year resonates deeply within the nation’s collective memory”
